Mark Cuban Says: "Take on Apple’s iTunes by Giving Away the Music!"
I was just browsing some of the top stories on digg, and found one about Mark Cuban on Barron’s blog regarding an idea of Cuban’s on how to kill Apple’s iTunes store. Essentially, he proposes that Apple’s competitors write larger checks to the music industry, and in turn give away the first billion songs for free while making revenue on ads.
Can this work? Google has made billions from online advertising. It has potential, but for the diggers chanting what an idiot Cuban is for his ideas, where are your billions? Sure, Cuban could exercise control over his temper and flamboyant personality, but the guy didn’t become a billionaire on chance. He’s a visionary, and visionaries make money. Simple as that.
Personally, I like the idea. There’s a large ecosystem to support giving away music for free, while making everyone involved rich AND happy.
