Withdrawing Support of Obama; Atheism; Race
Update: After much thought, I may be reconsidering the withdrawal of my support for Obama … The reasons for doing so was because I felt hopeless for any real change in our country, and the issues I’ve grown so passionate about doesn’t seem to be echoed by the majority of the American population … not even a great candidate such as Obama … however, I’ve come to note that change is an evolution … it all happens in baby steps, and Obama would represent that small step … more to follow in a later post
On a large scale, the opinion of one man won’t make much difference, but I’d like to share my reasons for withdrawing my support of Barack Obama in my latest video. Also, am an atheist or agnostic? I finally come clean on my views about religion — the journey of freedom continues.

I disagree with your thinking.
So you say, things are so bad now that we should just give up and turn inward. ie nothing we do will matter. At the same time, you say real power lies with people, and yet you reject organizing that power to overcome entrenched interests. Of all the candidates running, Barack Obama is the only one who genuinely talks about mobilizing people to return power to where it rightly belongs - to the people. Back in 2000, I heard the same comments by some folks who claimed politics doesn’t matter, our votes are meaningless, etc. Well, we ended up with George Bush and it sure as heck has been a rough six years for many Americans. If anything, the presidency matters a whole lot than many people think.
You keep repeating “Why should I care”? Well, you should care because you matter. MLK, Gandhi, JFK, etc all changed the world by focusing not on themselves but on bettering the the lives of others and by trying to make the world a better place. Did they succeed all the time? No. But they tried and persevered and left their mark on the world. They refused to be boxed in. It’s a lesson we all should learn: we matter more than we think.
PS. On a small note, why not volunteer for a cause that you feel strongly about? I think it would help you to be more positive and energized. You sound a bit down.
