I see you’re originally from Detroit. My wife grew up there and we live in Ann Arbor.
Anyway, while listening to your recording the following quote came to mind:
“It is the job of the communicator to connect with his or her audience, and not vice versa.” - Dr. Tim Elmore
You can’t blame others from not getting what your meaning is. You need to clearly communicate your point. It’s waayyy too easy to say “people just don’t get me” etc.,.
Ok,.. Negro => Colored => Black, and now => African American. How we are labeled keeps evolving. While labels do not define me as a person, It’s wasted energy being bothered about the FACT that society likes assigning labels.
Being bothered by being called black or African American would be like BMW getting upset over their cars being called Bimmers. Can you imagine Puffs going on a campaign to stop people from referring to their tissue as the now generic term Kleenex?! Some battles just arent’ worth waging.
Bro, if you live to be 100 years old, you will never see a time where we and others aren’t labeled.
I don’t know if you are a student of “BLACK” history, but compared to what our ancestors went through, we live in a utopia. So what to there being some who prejudge you or don’t want to deal with you based on your “melanin.” Most people aren’t like that so why waste emotion on those idiots. Roll with the good folk and enjoy life.
