Jai Pausch: Thank You

Posted in All by Ronald Lewis

Update: It has been reported that Jai’s husband, Randy Pausch, has died at 47 on July 25th. Randy was a great and inspiring figure. May Jai’s dedication to Randy prove what is lacking in humanity today. I hope my generation especially is inspired by Randy’s life and legacy. We need a return to love, respect and kindness.

Dear Jai:

The world has heard about your husband, Randy, and of course, many of us have been touched by his “last lecture.” However, I want to personally take this moment to thank you personally. I am happy to know there are still women like yourself in the world — Women who will stand by their mates no matter what.

It’s more than obvious that you’re carrying a heavy burden at this time, yet your love and dedication for Randy shines as bright as the sun. I feel better knowing that Randy has an amazing and supportive woman such as yourself by his side, for his final days will be easier knowing he was loved.

Thank you for showing me there are still great women in our society — Women who are committed to the men they love.

  2. Dear Jai,
Since I read and viewed the Last Lecture, I have used it in my classroom to show my students how powerful the written word is to inspire. In addition, I have have used Randy’s lecture for a final in my English class. I have had a situation in which a student is a graduating senior, or nearly, and for some reason chooses not to do all the work to finish. Instead of failing the student which will also keep him from graduating, I have required him to view Randy’s lecture and write a 3 page paper in which he shows his dreams, lessons he has learned so far and what legacy he would like to leave. More than just eking by, I believe this young man put in more than he did all year, and I am sure got much more.

  3. I finished reading “The Last Lecture” several days ago. I was recently diagnosed with a side branch IPMT tumor on the tail of my pancreas, go for an ultrasound biopsy today and anxiously await the report. Since 2 surgeons have already recommended surgery this may just be a delay of the inevitable, but I have truly been encouraged while reading the book. This book will be an inspiration to its readers…the depth of understanding, loyalty, love and caring shown by Jai are role models to be followed by anyone with a young family and is a reminder for us older folks that everything happens for a reason and we must open our eyes to be aware of what is truly important in our life as days and time go by. Thank you, Randy and Jai, for sharing your love and message with us. Nita Carranza

    Dear Jai,
I admire your courage and support and most especially the love you’ve shown to your husband. The love you both have shared with each other and with your children is most definitely unconditional.

I’m glad that I was able to read “The Last Lecture”. It will remain in our household.

By the way, I already had our daughter and her cousins draw and paint an entire bedroom wall. They couldn’t believe that my husband and I would allow them to do so, but they had lots of fun!

    Thank you for unconditional love!

    Sincerely,

It has been a whole two minutes since the credits rolled on ABC’s special. Please know the credits will roll much longer for the inspiration and courage you demonstrated. I am a cancer survivor, female and over 40. I cannot say that I know your pain, anguish or triumphant realization, but I do/did see it through your eyes and smiles and sighs….Randy is an amazing person and the highlights of your life together only twinkle compared to the sunshine you two must share. I stand, well I am sitting in awe of your grace and elegance. Know in days and months to come you are living according to God’s divine plan and you have a leading role. May the credits continue to roll, the story isn’t over.
