Randy Pausch on Oprah?

Posted in All by Ronald Lewis

By now, the world has heard about (or seen) the “last lecture” of dying CMU (Carnegie Mellon University) computer science professor Dr. Randy Pausch. In September of 2006, Dr. Pausch was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Hoping to beat the odds, Dr. Pausch underwent a bold treatment plan to defeat his cancer. Unfortunately, in August 2007, the cancer returned to his liver and spleen.

Since Dr. Pausch’s lecture on September 18, he’s been featured on national television programs to talk about his fate, life and more. And now, it appears that he might make an appearance on Oprah (based on a recent visitor to my site from CMU and their search query.) If he does appear, it would be a wonderful platform to share his message with the world.

This is a lecture that should be shown to children of all ages. The youth sometimes feel like they want and want when what they really NEED is good parenting, respect, and dreams. This man is the true meaning of life and hope. What he said about “do me a favor if your child wants to paint their bedrooms do me a favor and let them.” How simple but how true. We all get so caught up in so many other things in life, however, if we are just simply good people and parents life will take care of itself.

Thank you Randy Pausch and Randy’s parents

Some lessons from Randy Pausch’s last lecture that especially moved me:

    1. Brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things.
    2. Experience is what you get when you didn’t get what you wanted.
    3. Never lose the child-like wonder.
    4. If we do something which is pioneering, we will get arrows in the back. But at the end of the day, a whole lot of people will have a whole lot of fun.
    5. Be good at something; it makes you valuable.
    6. If you live your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, and the dreams will come to you.
