The Life and History of J.B. Hunt

A world-class businessman. The spirit of America. An inspiration to my life.

It has been reported that retired J.B. Hunt Chairman Johnnie Bryant Hunt has died of injuries suffered from a fall at his home this past Saturday.

I am crushed. Numbed. Saddened. I’d planned on finally meeting Mr. Hunt next year after many years of having a close relationship with the company he founded. Unfortunately, our meeting will never happen.

I originally wrote Mr. Hunt at the tender age of 13 in 1993 and it was that letter which birthed an amazing and priceless relationship with the company. I learned so much through his generosity and the kindness of the company’s executives and employees. Some of my closest friends today are/were J.B. Hunt employees.

I send my condolences to the Hunt and J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. families.

My admiration for Mr. Hunt has always been strong and its something I’ve written about with great pride. It is my tribute and way of saying “Thanks” for the years of inspiration.

Mr. Hunt will be truly missed. His ambition as an entrepreneur and one of America’s most beloved transportation executives will leave a lasting impact on our culture and way of life.
