Note: This is a ‘live’ document and will be refined and improved as necessary

Obsessed with technology, big ideas, bringing people together and living an amazing life. Let’s connect, share, laugh and learn.

That’s my Twitter bio. It’s simple and explains a lot of things about who I am. Over a year ago, I joined the Twitter community with a lot of curiosity, innocence and hope. My presence on Twitter has grown steadily in this time, amassing nearly 1,000 followers as of Monday, January 5, 2009. I have not launched any campaigns to increase my visibility, nor have I used any tricks to reach this point.

While I am not the “Big Cheese of Twitter”, I am still amazed by my ability to connect with and engage interesting people. Thus, I believe it’s now time to share my first ever Twitter Mission Statement which is the outgrowth of my Twitter bio. The intent here is to educate the community about my interest and purpose for being a member of the expanding Twittersphere:

Connecting

I am a community-oriented individual. I do not care about status — I care about human beings. Building strong, healthy and long-lasting relationships is my goal in life, whether online or off. Human beings are my lifeline and the foundation upon which I’ve built my life. Without the many great relationships I have around the world, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Bringing people to together and Making a difference are two themes which have been a mainstay for most of my life. The beauty is that I’m now able to do both from the comfort of my home.

By focusing on the creation of great relationships on Twitter, I have already realized some of the following:

  • Great new friendships
  • Great new opportunities
  • A priceless education in life, business and more
  • New ways to make a living as a self-employed guy without an official title

Great relationships are like food to me. I am always working to surround myself with some of humanity’s best people. I learn from you. I am inspired by you. I am motivated by you.

Because of what Twitter means to me, you will discover that:

1. I am genuinely interested in learning about you
2. I will not follow people who aren’t participants of the community
3. I will always be honest about who I am, what I’m feeling and how I see the world

Sharing

I believe it’s important to share knowledge and insight with the world. There are a lot of things ongoing inside of my head. There are many things I’m not even ready to disseminate yet, because even I am attempting to make sense of it. If you don’t already know, I share knowledge and information which covers a variety of interests:

  • Social issues
  • Technology
  • Government
  • Business
  • Entertainment
  • Love
  • and more

Everything I share on Twitter is a reflection of who I am as an individual. I am not on Twitter to conform to any standard or practice. I’m on Twitter as an open-minded individual who desires to be himself without subscribing to any label, profession or approach.

Laughing

Not all is serious in my world. I do enjoy unwinding and having a nice time. Laughter is an important component of life, so I try to mix in some light-hearted stuff on occasion as well. We may not be in the same room, but I hope that my approach to humanizing the Twitter lifestream will bring us closer as community members.

Learning

I am a life-sized sponge at heart. I never stop learning. I will ask you many questions about things I’m curious about or have no knowledge of. These questions could be about you, your business, talents, experiences, etc. In return, I will also answer your questions.

At the end of the day on Twitter, it’s all about the relationship. I don’t care how many followers you have, how much money is in your bank account, your religion, gender, etc. Let’s connect as human beings on Twitter, because there’s something for everyone.

I’m learning a lot, quite a bit indeed, about social media and networking. Much of what I learn is through the tradition of our African foreparents; they learned a great deal about the world by observation!

    I’m attentively observing your efforts.

I may not be able to fully express either my gratitude or excitement about the possibilities of the future, because of what I’m learning.

Suffice it to say that I’m tremendously gratified.

Much, indeed a significant portion if that awareness and excitement has been generated by your ideas and sharing.

    I offer my humble appreciation.
